How to Have it All

June 19, 2019

You guys.

I just read a book that forever changed the way I look at the Proverbs 31 woman.

Everyone these days seems to be out here trying to live their best lives.  The Christian woman seeking a role model to help her apply intentional living principles can look no further than the Bible—one passage to be certain.

The Proverbs 31 woman is pretty much the It Girl of the Bible.  She is heralded by Christian writers and faith bloggers alike as a role model for women who want to live their best Christian lives.  She has it all—a successful husband who adores her, children who call her blessed, her own thriving business, servants to help around the house, and serious DIY skills.  She is touted as virtuous, capable, wise, and merciful.

Who wouldn’t want that???

What is this woman’s secret?  Don’t worry—you are sure to find out.

LEARN WHAT IT MEANS TO HAVE IT ALL

Disclaimer:  I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are 100% my own.

Proverbs 31:10-31 is much more than a checklist of #wifegoals for God-fearing women to strive toward.  In her new book, How to Have it All: The Secrets of the Proverbs 31 Woman, author Imani Ackerman dives deep into a study of this popular passage.  If you’re anything like me, you’ve read plenty of books and posts on Proverbs 31 that either left you feeling inadequate or motivated to learn all the domestic things–including spinning thread and making your own fabrics.

Ackerman offers a fresh and liberating perspective on Biblical Womanhood.  She puts her ministerial background to work, serving up a thorough breakdown of each verse—complete with Hebrew translation—for a more complete application.  There is something for every woman here, not just the homemaker.

Though Ackerman is well-versed in Biblical study, I can assure you How to Have it All is anything but boring.  This book is relatable and energizing, comparing the proverbial “woman of valor” to modern-day moguls like Oprah, Martha Stewart, and Beyonce.

If you have ever had the following (or similar) questions, How to Have it All is for you:
  • How can I fulfill my calling as a woman, wife, and/or mother while pursuing my own God-given dreams?
  • How can I glorify God in balancing my home and work life?
  • Do I really need to learn to sew and bake my own bread to be considered a virtuous woman?

WHY I ENJOYED THIS BOOK

My favorite thing about this book is that it does double duty as both a study of Proverbs 31 as well as a workbook.  Several self-probing questions at the end of each chapter will help you identify your God-given dream and guide you to develop an actionable plan to achieve it.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

This ain’t no snack—it is a deep and savory read.  For this reason, it is perfect not only for the reader who is on a spiritual and personal growth journey but also for a small group Bible study or book club.  By the time I finished this book, my understanding of Proverbs 31 was forever changed.  I no longer feel burdened by the weight of trying to measure up to a nearly impossible standard.  I am motivated to be all that God has created me to be for His glory.

And sis—I am convinced that you will feel the same way, too.
